Once allocated this number remains in use for multiple purposes. UIDAI serves as an important regulatory authority to issue Aadhaar number.
As Aadhaar is exclusively meant to establish identity of Indian nationals this number can be issued to any person including children without any reservation of age. It must be noted that purpose of an Aadhaar number is to establish individual identities hence such numbers differ for each person in a family. A centralized database stores all details collected from an individual like one’s demographic information from the residence address details to biometric specifics including fingerprints, photograph and iris scan to judge uniqueness of a person as an individual.
Notable factor with Aadhaar number issuance is that it is not enforced for allotment due to it being an individual choice but one is encouraged for voluntary approach to obtain one. Anybody can approach the authorities for getting issued an Aadhaar number for that one has to undergo application and enrollment process. Only one such unique ID number is issued to an individual so there can’t be dual or multiple number allotted to single person. There is no need to renew or change Aadhaar number at any point of time as it is issued for entire life to an individual. No fees is paid to obtain this unique number.
